Atlanta Public Schools focuses on student readiness. The APS team works to help students to find their voice and make changes not just in the classroom but in the real world. They work with students and provide programs like work based learning, ACCA, and the student government. These programs prepare students for careers outside of high school and allow students to figure out what their personal path may be. Student Government has a huge impact on the future of our schools and making change. Through APS I was able to participate in activities like breakfast with the board which allowed me to meet prominent members of the board of education and learn more about our policies and programs. Our counselors are there to provide and support the students. Their engagement with students build connections and allows students to learn about more opportunities and openings in life. APS counselors work tirelessly helping students prepare college and sign up for extra classes or make up courses.

Overall, I have had a decent experience with Atlanta Public schools. The school I attend has the IB diploma program allowing me to challenge my knowledge and learning. The arts and music programs are excellent and almost every sport is available to students. One thing that is difficult is the lack of access to the administration. Many times when seeking out my guidance counselor or another member of staff, they are not in their office and not reachable. The administration does not have much experience in a classroom which makes it hard for the teachers to teach to their best ability when needing to hit the guidelines of APS.

The best experience of attending an APS school is the variety of opportunities available to students. There are different types of extracurricular activities one can join, such as golf, soccer, the Beta Club, the National Honors Society, the Art Club, and many more. The worst aspects of my experience are the crowded hallways, the behavior of some students in the hallways, and the quality of the food provided at school.
