The 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid (2023 Range Rover PHEV) is finally here, with significantly better specifications. Unlike its predecessor, it comes in two variants – P440e and P510e, packing a bigger engine for more performance and advanced electrification technologies for a long range. Both variants are part of the model’s five-seat-only standard-wheelbase version, with the P440e available in the United States. Let’s take a detailed look at the electrified variants.

Sprightly Performance
The 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid (2023 Range Rover PHEV) sports a 3.0-liter Ingenium straight-six gasoline engine that works with a 104 kW (139 hp)/275 Nm (203 lb.-ft.) electric motor integrated with the transmission.
The Range Rover P440e gets 434 hp of system power and 405.7 lb.-ft. of system torque. The Range Rover P510e has a higher tuning of 510 PS (503 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb.-ft.), respectively. Both variants have an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system as standard. The towing capacity of both Range Rover P440e and Range Rover P510e is the same as that of the outgoing model’s P400e variant – 2,500 kg (5,512 lbs).
The plug-in hybrid variants can achieve top speeds of up to 87 mph on electric mode. In the P510e, a 0-60 mph sprint takes only 5.2 seconds, and the top speed is 150 mph. The P440e takes 6.0 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint and achieves a top speed of 140 mph.
Excellent Electric Range
The 2023 Range Rover PHEV has a lithium-ion battery mounted under the cabin floor, within the wheelbase. Land Rover says it has engineered the battery casing using Boron steel to ensure safety in extreme 4×4 conditions. The battery shield can support the vehicle’s weight balanced on a single axle. It’s possible to fit a full-sized spare wheel in the plug-in hybrid SUV.
The lithium-ion battery has a usable capacity of 31.8 kWh, and it provides a pure electric range of up to 70 miles (WLTP) in both P440e and P510e. Realistically, however, Land Rover is expecting a 50-mile range in EV mode, which is considerable for this mammoth of an SUV. The company says that the all-new plug-in hybrid model should deliver a real-world combined range of around 400 miles (WLTP). The CO2 emission rating of the P440e and P510e is the same – 18 g/km (WLTP).
In the U.S., Land Rover is expecting the 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid to deliver a real-world electric range of 48 miles. The company may disclose the EPA-est. electric range along with the other local specifications on its consumer website in the coming weeks.
When using the new Tailgate Event Suite feature, thanks to the 31.8 kWh battery, the dimmable spotlights can provide high-tensity task lighting for up to 88 hours instead of just two hours on the non-plug-in-hybrid variants.
Navigation-based energy usage
The 2023 Range Rover PHEV optimizes electric energy usage based on eHorizon navigation data. Under hybrid operation, geo-fencing technology uses navigation and location data through eHorizon to automatically preserve and prioritize EV mode.
Suppose the selected route includes a low-emissions zone. In that case, the plug-in hybrid system will ensure that the battery has the electricity to offer EV mode driving while in that zone, even if that means driving only using petrol earlier. Moreover, the plug-in hybrid system preserves charging to drive in EV mode for the last 6 km (4 miles) of journeys in urban areas, ensuring a quiet and relaxed arrival at the destination.
Fast-charging capability

Few PHEVs globally offer DC fast-charging capability, and the Range Rover PHEV is one. It’s possible to charge the 31.8 kWh battery at up to 50 kW. Fast-charging to 80% SoC takes less than an hour. Using a domestic 7.2 kW AC wall box charger takes five hours to charge the battery fully. Below are the charging times of the P440e and P550e variants, both of which come with a 5-meter (16-feet) charging cable:

U.S. launch
The 2023 Range Rover PHEV appears to have slowly started arriving at U.S. dealerships. Land Rover Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, Land Rover Bellevue in Bellevue, Washington, Land Rover West Ashley in Charleston, South Carolina, Land Rover Buffalo in Amherst, New York, and a few other dealerships appear to have inventory, as per the main Land Rover USA website. The plug-in hybrid SUV’s availability should improve this year.
JLR offers the 2023 Range Rover PHEV in the U.S. in the P440e variant and the SE grade. There are no plans for the top-spec P510e variant, and additional grades in future model years will depend on customer feedback and availability.
2023 Range Rover PHEV Price
JLR introduced the 2023 Range Rover P440e SE in the U.S. last year at USD 108,400, levying a USD 1,350 delivery and destination charge. Since then, it has increased the MSRP by USD 2,100 to USD 110,500 and the delivery and destination charge by USD 125 to USD 1,475.
